AN angry voice of discontent which has made its voice heard on numerous occasions, punk duo Slaves have went from strength to strength over the past 12 months, selling out venues all over the country and building something of a mythology around themselves. Rather ironically, they’ve picked the immediate aftermath of a general election in which a great deal of England’s proletariat have been left dismayed to release the video for ‘Cheer Up London.’
A brash and confrontational track that conjures the 70’s heyday of The Clash, The Sex Pistols and The Damned, ‘Cheer Up London’ is a snarling beast which is brimming with cynicism despite its title. Feauturing immediately gripping chords and a frantic chorus of ‘you’re dead already’, the track sees them rejecting the rat race that fuels the UK’s capital and portrays it as utterly futile.
Its accompanying video sees the two piece cavorting through the streets of London, rampaging past ice cream vans and through double decker buses, culminating in a carnival atmosphere albeit one laced with sneering aggression.
The band’s debut record Are You Satisfied will be released on 1st June 2015 via Virgin/EMI.
