WITH their eagerly anticipated sixth album ‘The New Abnormal’ set to land this Friday (10th April), The Strokes have treated fans to a brand new preview track called ‘Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus’.
Much like the two ‘New Abnormal’ tracks we’ve already heard, the celestial, drumless ‘At The Door’ and instantly addictive ‘Bad Decisions’, the new single sees the band push their classic sound into new territory – this time taking inspiration from the eighties. Featuring a twitchy, off-kilter keyboard riff, it’s a dose of glittery, disco-tinged new wave which allows Julian Casablancas to meditate on memories, from old friends to the “Eighties bands” of his youth, as well as the conflicting urges between maintaining at social life and staying at home. Given that fate has now made that decision for us, it feels strangely well-timed and nostalgic.
Featuring another big anthemic chorus, it’s a catchy, driving number that, despite its nods to the eighties, remains unmistakably The Strokes.
‘The New Abnormal’ arrives this Friday 10th April. The band have revealed though that the planned dispatch of vinyl copies has been delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
