AN act that have frequently been handpicked by some of the industry’s most prominent figures as a support act, it seems that all of the signposts inevitably lead to Sunflower Bean becoming a formidable force in their own right. After obliterating audiences at The Great Escape and leaving bands such as Best Coast, DIIV and Wolf Alice with a hard act to follow on recent US tours, they’ve graced us with the gem that is ‘I Hear Voices.’
Adopting a prog rock aesthetic in its instrumentation that harks back to the golden age of bands such as Deep Purple and UFO whilst remaining punchy and defiant, ‘I Hear Voices’ is dizzying to say the least. Flitting between the gritter vocals of Nick Kivlen and the more refined and high register tone of Julia Cumming, the track culminates in a maelstrom of blistering guitar that is as righteously sludgy as anything that Clutch or Monster Magnet have ever delivered.
‘I Hear Voices’ is available now on 7″ via Fat Possum Records.
