The band: Glasgow ‘vampires’ The Amazing Snakeheads set to drop third single from Amphetamine Ballads on July 14th. After a year that included signing to Domino Records, high profile tour supports, sold out Glasgow shows and leaving an impression at Brighton’s The Great Escape, the trio return with a new video for single, Nighttime.
The sound: One of the highlights of their debut, the track features screeching guitars, tribal drums and the manic wails we’ve come to expect from the band. Bearing resemblance sonically to Nick Cave’s wilder work on pre Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party and an intro that wouldn’t sit out of place on a Link Wray cut. The real weight of the track lies in the menacing vocal performance, the line “i’m going to take you dancing, all night long” sounds more of a terrifying prospect than an invite.
The Lowdown: Snakeheads take to their European tour this month, returning for Scottish dates at this year’s Wickerman and T in the Park festivals in July.
