BOTH Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have long been unwilling to allow The Black Keys to be their only creative outlet, with side projects abound since frontman Auerbach’s 2009 solo record Keep It Hid.
With drummer Carney left on the sidelines with a debilitating injury, it seems like a suitable time for Dan to allot time to a new project; which is precisely what he has done.
Having previously released a 7″, Auerbach’s The Arcs have unleashed the rollicking ‘Outta My Mind’ on the unsuspecting public.
Billowing with undertones of mid-60’s pyschedelia that manifests in its dizzying effects, gentle vocals and splashy percussion; it adheres to a similar central sound as The Black Keys before adorning it in swathes of haziness and punchy guitar. Culminating in raucous guitar that could’ve been plucked from a maligned Steppenwolf or Blue Oyster Cult record, the frontman continues to demonstrate his adeptness in crafting old school rock ‘n’ roll.
An interesting but altogether natural progression in the catalogue of Auerbach, it will be interesting to see what the debut full length Yours Dreamily yields when released on 4th September 2015.
