TODAY marks the release of The Dress Rehearsal’s self-titled debut album.

The brainchild of singer-songwriter David Milne, The Dress Rehearsal combine classical pop elements with 60s inspired melodies to create a vintage yet immersive sound. Imbued with nostalgia, the new album is filled with pop melodies, lush string and brass arrangements, and vocal harmonies largely influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Harry Nilsson.

And after starting out as a concept album about a theatre show, all connected from start to finish, it makes for a compelling and rewarding listen. Evoking a bygone era with a real appreciation for songcraft, Milne is more than a sum of his influences though – bringing his own distinct flair to the musical narrative.

Thematically, he explores themes such as sobriety and getting one’s life back on track, with tracks like ‘Out On The Tiles’ providing commentary on the feeling of watching life go by in a daydream state, longing for much more.

The group took to the stage at Cottiers in Glasgow this week, to bring the album to life in full scale. Dressed smartly in suits, audiences were amazed at the talent on display from the lineup, in a fitting venue.

2025 is set to be a take-off year for The Dress Rehearsal, with their debut self-titled album launching themselves right in to Scotland’s music scene.
