The band: Beach goth band The Growlers recently toured with London’s Fat White Family, tossing a coin each night to decide who would headline the gig. The band formed in 2006 and they will release their fourth album later this month.

The sound: ‘Chinese Fountain’ is a distinctive melding of reverb heavy surf guitar and Bakersfield-style honky tonk with ‘80s post-punk. Featuring a disco beat, synths and fast-tempo, bass and guitar work in harmony to provide Brooks Nielsen an exciting space to lay down his salty vocals including ambiguous lines like: “The internet is bigger than Jesus and John Lennon.”

The lowdown: Taken from the album of the same title Chinese Fountain was recorded at Sea Horse Sands Studio in downtown Los Angeles and produced by JP Plunier. The album will be released via FatCat Records on Monday 29th September. The band play Glasgow’s Broadcast on 15th November.
