IT’S rare that The Growlers don’t impress and undress with their easy-going surf rock sound. Straight out of Orange County, California, the West Coast garage-rock outfit often treck back to the 60’s style epoch to find inspiration in the form of reverb heavy guitar and velvety vocal melodies. ‘Love Test’ is incredibly taken from the laborious band’s 6th album in six years, Chinese Fountain, and contains all the elements that they built their name upon with a few added vibes of a day out at a californian funfair, perched on a pier overlooking the ocean.
The bass holds up the laidback instrumentation like a master of puppets as Brooks Nielsen softly exclaims “Love isn’t as easy/Easy as it seems”, in an effort that’s akin to being covered in warm oil. The video meanwhile is all the fun of the faire, featuring Nielsen and co. playing infront of a crowd dressed in Tophat, Coattails, bowtie and all. Chinese Fountain is already out and is available for purchase worldwide and whilst the band have not got any upcoming UK tour dates scheduled they are expected to play Bonnaroo Festival on 11th June 2015.
