OUR weekly rundown of the best new tracks is back with the likes of Baby Strange, HYYTS, Deb Never, Yard Act, Bleach Lab and Goat Girl all delivering the goods. Check out our highlights of the week below alongside our extended Spotify playlist.

Baby Strange ‘Club Sabbath’

It seems fated that Baby Strange would one day release a song called ‘Club Sabbath’, the name of their iconic club nights held in The Priory which have become rite of passage for so many up-and-coming bands in Scotland. The new song is a thunderous, no-holds-barred affair that captures the unruly atmosphere of those nights on the esteemed venue’s sticky dancefloor.

HYYTS ‘Bad Tattoo’

Glasgow pop duo HYYTS are back with another blast of pure pop euphoria with the release of ‘Bad Tattoo’. Known for pairing their soaring pop creations with deep-rooted narratives, their latest single is no different and finds them using tattoos as a metaphor for scars and being proud of them, as if they are a mark of strength and resilience.

Yard Act ‘Dark Days’

Yard Act build an intense image of post-apocalyptic Yorkshire on their new single ‘Dark Days’. With his poetic, half-spoken Mark E Smith lyrics, frontman James Smith searches for a slim sign of hope against a barrage of wiry guitars and post-punk rhythms.

Billie Eilish ft Rosalía  ‘Lo Vas A Olvidar’

Set to feature in an episode of HBO’s ‘Euphoria’, Billie Eilish has finally dropped her long-awaited collaboration with Rosalía . ‘Lo Vas Olvidar’ – which translates to “You Will Forget It” – is a moody atmospheric track that finds Eilish singing in Spanish for the first time. With the two artists’ vocal tones melding seamlessly together, it’s all built around a subtle yet tantalising chorus hook.

Goat Girl ‘Badibaba’

Giving us another insight into their new album ‘On All Fours’ (out 29th January) ‘Badibaba’ finds Goat Girl reflecting on “environmental catastrophe”. It’s perhaps the catchiest of all their new songs but there’s no ignoring the underlying darkness and unease as they touch on our exploitative relationship with the planet.

Community Swimming Pool ‘Number One’

Following on from debut single ‘Upside Down’, Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist Brett McCann is back with his second track under the Community Swimming Pool moniker. Produced entirely himself, ‘Number One’ is another lovely dose of dream-pop; one full of shimmering guitars, uplifting melodies and wistful romance.

Deb Never ‘Someone Else’

Known for crafting intimate songs that thread together elements of alt-rock, grunge, lo-fi pop and hip-hop, Deb Never’s first release of 2021 is a beguiling affair that twists and turns from a smooth, dreamy opening into a heady, percussive-heavy bridge.
