SINCE first emerging a few years ago, Vanives have had us hooked with every release. Creating a sound entirely of their own devising, their unique approach to songwriting has stood them apart – rooted in personal memories and samples of VHS family tapes, and glued together with impassioned vocals and hip-hop influenced production.
After years spent honing in on their craft, the duo have announced the release of their debut album ‘thanks’ on 27th May 2022.
Made up of 12 tracks, including the singles ‘Just Draw Daisies’ and ‘Arc of the Moment’, the album will also feature their latest offering ‘Basic Love’.
Pairing up with producer Fred Cox (Rag N Bone Man, Mabel, Grace Carter) once again, the track offers a slight shift in gear with Stuart Ramage’s detuned vocals delivered over acoustic guitar melodies. Enhanced by Roan’s distinctively warm, rich production, it’s a dreamy number packed with emotion.
They say “Basic love was written for friendships that never change as you stumble in and out of each other’s lives, for the relationships that need all the work and the ones that are already lost. Basic Love was written for those stretching themselves too thin for the ones they love, and those that keep it to themselves. Basic Love is for those who are just figuring it out.”
To commemorate the album’s release, the band will headline Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Sunday 29th May.
Stuart adds ‘It feels so mental to be launching our debut album at our biggest headline show yet. The Oran Mor has been a venue I have always loved, and it’s going to be a perfect environment for our music and our visuals.’
