A global radio tribute to Prince has been planned for this evening.
Based upon the lyrics of his classic track ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ which features the iconic opening gambit ‘It’s been seven hours and 13 days since you took your love away’, the move was launched by American radio station KCMP who have subsequently invited other outlets to do the same in honour of the late musician.
Whilst many stations in the US have pledged to join in on the touching tribute at the same time in their respective time zones, GMT would stripulate that it must occur at 10.07 PM if UK based organisation hope to join in.
Crucially, the track played must be Prince’s original version as opposed to Sinead O’Connor’s renowned cover due to the fact that she chose to change the lyrics to ’15 days.’
KCMP program director Jim McGunn has clarified the thinking behind the move, stating that: ‘We just wanted to honor the man we called our friend, and the music we all love, and thought that maybe we might be able to get radio stations all over the world to share this moment with fans who are missing this great artist.’
Fans across the world are urged to join in the celebration of the timeless artist’s life by using the hashtag #nothingcompares2u.
