IN one of the best 4 band bills Glasgow has seen in a long time, two local support acts and New York’s Skaters took to the stage before Deap Vally, playing sets welcomed by the sold-out crowd.

Local psychedelic-rock band Tijuana Bibles set the bar high with their opening set, a rugged and raw twenty minutes of rock and outstanding vocals from lead Tony Costello proved their unpolished guitars and driving bass is not for the faint hearted. Their track Wild River stood out as strong and tight, nicely delivered by the four-piece.

Opening with Black Magic were Glasgow’s Blindfolds. Since bagging themselves a T Break spot in the summer, the leather-clad rock band always remained hyped-up on stage, giving it 110 percent. Their sound is amazing tonight, really heavy and strong. The bass-driven Young Blood finished the set, the crowd embracing the heavy wall of sound forced upon them as the chorus erupts in a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club esque mash.

New York’s Skaters put on a set that The Strokes of the noughties would happily have called their own, punchy, rocky, punky and straight to the point, the drums and bass stole the show as they banged through their best track I Wanna Dance.

Deap Vally managed to put on a set for the packed crowd that sounded just like the record. “You guys are the shit,” shouts guitarist Lindsey Troy, as curly-haired Julie Edwards bangs the drums for Gonna Make My Own Money.

Their gritty guitar tunes throughout the set reach peaks in the form of Baby I Call Hell and closing track End of the World.

Thanks to the crowds-staple of leather and pleather, fans left hot and resting easy in the knowledge that rock ‘n’ roll isn’t dead and sometimes it comes just as gritty from two California chicks in sequences.
