blurmagicwhipTHE BAND: Britpop heavyweights Blur continue their revival with the announcement of the third single ‘Lonesome Street,’ taken from their long-awaited upcoming album The Magic Whip. Even though the album was in doubt for many years, the anticipation of it’s release is still creating as much buzz as it would had it been released at the London quartet’s prime back in the 90’s. Partly recorded in Hong Kong, guitarist Graham Coxon recently stated that a lot of his guitar work on the album was influenced by an atmosphere of anxiety due to the rise of political friction in the city.

THE SOUND: Life is on the upbeat for Damon Albarn and co. at the moment and that is evident in the paradoxically bright stylings present in new release ‘Lonesome Street’. The track displays an attitude of creative freedom, with the band seemingly unconcerned with any notion of  fan pleasing but instead having fun recording and making music together again with brilliant results.

THE LOWDOWN: Set for release on 27th April 2015, The Magic Whip is one of the year’s most anticipated albums and even though there is no current news on a tour, the band are set to play a massive gig at Hyde Park, London on the 20th June 2015 along with a headline slot at this year’s Benicassim festival.
