GIRLPOOL hit the bowling alley in the new video to ‘Powerplant’, the title track of their newly released second album.

Following the release of their critically acclaimed 2015 debut LP Before The World Was Big, Powerplant sees them return with a fuller sound; their simple guitar and bass dynamic bolstered by the addition of a drummer. The title track is a wistful and melodic preview of the record; led by a steady rhythm section, it features an off-kilter piano line and some twanging electric guitars with the duo’s gorgeous harmonies once again taking centre stage.

The new video, the third to be released in the run up to the album, is an appropriately kitschy accompaniment. Taking place in a bowling alley, it sees the band perform the song in rather deadpan and subdued fashion as everyone else enjoys a night out. However, it delves into a meta realm when a director interrupts proceedings and encourages them to go along with it: “I mean, it’s just rock’n’roll guys”.

Video director, Philip Steiger has said: “the music video is a meta-narrative nightmare exploring the power dynamics and manipulation behind an insincere candidness.”

Girlpool’s latest album Powerplant is out now and available for purchase. The band have announced a UK tour for later in the year which will bring them to Stereo in Glasgow on 9th September. Check out the video below.
