MASTER of music that is not only melancholic and macabre but can be equal parts uplifting, bona-fide legends don’t come much bigger than Leonard Cohen.
With today marking his 82nd birthday, it’s all too evident that the singer’s passion for producing forward-thinking material hasn’t subsided as he unleashes ‘You Want It Darker’, the sinister title track from his forthcoming fourteenth album.
Toying with theological imagery with black humour and a middle finger up to mortality, Latin incantations, choirs and chill-inducing hammond organ makes the track an intriguing listen from start to finish.
Confidently proclaiming that ‘I’m ready my lord’, the album will be Cohen’s first release in six years and press releases have dubbed it to be the culmination of his life.
You Want It Darker will be released on the 21st October via Sony.
