IT’S the year 1979 and Paisley legends The Vegan Leather are starring in the hit TV show Boba La Popa. Transporting us back to a different era, the four-piece channel vintage Top of the Pops and disco-pop grandeur on their scintillating new video ‘Eyes’; a clip we are delighted to premiere here on TTV.

Following the release of their hugely popular debut single ‘Shake It’ earlier this year, ‘Eyes’ marks yet another step up for the outfit – both in songwriting and execution. Opening in deeply mesmerising fashion, Marie Collins’ alluring vocals lull you into a false sense of security before the track bursts to life with the kind of exhilarating funk-laden sequence we’ve come to know and love from the group. A rip-roaring guitar solo is unleashed over a deluge of kaleidoscopic synths and driving rhythms as the track culminates in swirling euphoria.

The accompanying clip, shot by Cameron Brisbane and edited by frontman Gianluca Bernacchi, sees the band perform the track in front of an adoring crowd on a Top of the Pops-style music programme. Effectively channelling the glitz and glamour of the classic pop show, its entrancing sequences soon become increasingly unsettling and claustrophobic as the audience transform into strange, mask-bearing individuals, closing in on the group and giving them nowhere to hide.

Speaking exclusively to TTV, Bernacchi said of the track and video: “Weʼd started recording this track back in July last year in our home studio. We then took it to Lewis Andrew from WHITE and he did his magic. For the video we wanted to channel 1979 Top of The Pops, very bright and dreamy with dreamy presenters in the form of Gary Shobizz and Jade Bon Anniversaire. Then start to turn that reality on its head and make it a bit strange”

Following a standout performance on the King Tut’s stage at TRNSMT two weeks ago, exciting times lie ahead for The Vegan Leather who have more festival slots lined up at Kendal Calling and Doune the Rabbit Hole.

‘Eyes’ is now available to listen on Spotify here. Meanwhile, check out the brilliant new video below.
