THE BAND: Blending elements from all manner of genres into a distinct and unmistakable sound, Toronto’s Young Empires are an incredibly exciting proposition given their seemingly limitless creativity. Renowned for collaborating with a number of esteemed artists and labels, the band have returned with the infectious ‘So Cruel.’
THE SOUND: Evoking the deep house spirit with its squalling intro, ‘So Cruel’ sees the three piece putting a unique spin on the output of electro pop staples such as Friendly Fires and Passion Pit as well as bearing resemblance to Portland’s more subversive Chromatics. Undeniably catchy and danceable, it builds to a poignant crescendo over which Matthew Vlahovich’s vocals soar.
