hozier tenement tvHOZIER, Bombay Bicycle Club and Manic Street Preachers were among the acts honoured at today’s Ivor Novello awards.

Taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, the ceremony which “celebrates excellence in British and Irish songwriting” was marking its 60th anniversary.

Hozier beat Bear’s Den and Ben Howard to the award of best song musically and lyrically for the smash single ‘Take me to Church’.

Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jack Steadman beat Royal Blood and Wild Beasts to the Album award where he was recognised for his writing on 2014’s So Long, See You Tomorrow.
Boy George picked up an award for outstanding contribution to music, while Kasbian’s Serge Pizzorno and Tom Meighan presented the Manic Street Preachers with the Ivor’s inspiration award.

Albert Hammond, father of Albert Hammond Jr., was presented with the outstanding song collection prize by Glasgow folk legend Donovan.
Alt J (‘Every Other Freckle’) and FKA Twigs (‘Two Weeks’) were also nominated, but missed out on the best contemporary song prize to Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’.
