DEAD BEET RECORDS have announced that they will close their doors and reform as a newly minted label called Public Records.

Since forming four years ago, Dead Beet have been responsible for releasing some of the best new music to come out of Glasgow; lending their support to a huge range of exciting local bands such as The Lapelles, The Ninth Wave, WHITE, LUCIA, Baby Strange and many more. Gaining a reputation for their infamously raucous live music events and passion for new talent, they quickly established themselves as a vital part of Glasgow’s thriving scene with one impressive release after the next; providing a platform for burgeoning new musicians both onstage and off it.

Marking the end of a very fruitful era,  the label said “we are optimistic to say we will be closing our doors after this summer and reforming to become Public“. Before then though, they have announced details of their very special closing party this Saturday (13th May). Returning to the familiar surroundings of The Priory Bar on Sauchiehall Street, the night will feature live music from hotly tipped act Vulgarians, The Usual? and poetry from Declan Welsh. There will also be DJ sets from a variety of local bands and artists such as ROXY AGOGO, Baby Strange, LUCIA, The Ninth Wave, Tijuana Bibles and The New Fabian Society. Check out the event page for more info.

Importantly, Dead Beet will be honouring the sale and promotion of all current releases under the label through to the end. Meanwhile the newly minted Public Records, founded by Conor Goldie (Dead Beet) and Johnny Madden (Baby Strange), have already announced that they will be bringing out Baby Strange’s highly anticipated EP this summer followed by a AA single from Rascalton in August.

The full statement read:

“After four years releasing some of Glasgow’s best young bands, we are optimistic to say we will be closing our doors after this summer and reforming to become Public. We’d like to thank everyone who has supported what we’ve done here in any way, wether it was buying a record, coming to a show or just investing their energy into grassroots guitar music in this city. It’s been incredible to see. We’ve had an amazing four years and couldn’t be more grateful to every artist that has let us represent them and their output. Thank you to each and every member of each band.

Before that. Let’s cause it BIG once more.”
