FACEBOOK
are in the midst of exploring a new ticket-selling feature which could prevent the use of third-party companies and benefit up-and-coming bands.

In the process of surveying users in order to gather the information required to put this initiative into action, the social media site has been asking about the likelihood of people enlisting the Facebook app to purchase tickets and therefore cut out the middle man by reducing service fees and cutting out the necessity of re-entering details.

This would therefore allow smaller bands that aren’t eligible to be listed on sites such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation to sell tickets for their shows directly from their Facebook page as opposed to enlisting services such as Bigcartel to set up an online store.

In addition to this proposed feature, Facebook has also been considering the concept of adding a ‘tip jar’ which will allow for users to directly support artists and content creators.

It is as yet unknown whether these plans will be put into action however it appears that they could be beneficial to artists at both a grassroots and major label level.
