the growlers-3

NOT many bands can count Julian Casablancas as one of their biggest fans, but Californian quintet The Growlers have certainly managed to pull it off.

The psychedelic rockers have just revealed the new title track from their forthcoming album ‘City Club’, which has been co-produced by The Strokes frontman and will come out on the 30th of September through his Cult Records label.

Known for a unique style which draws from a mash of influences from reggae to punk to psychedelia, the band have seen their popularity grow over the years thanks to a relentless touring schedule and DIY ethic. This latest track, which was premiered on Casablancas’ Culture Void radio show on SiriusXMU, sees them bring in twinkling synths, funky Strokes-like rhythms and an addictive chorus to great, dance-worthy effect. The polished production is a continuation of the previous record ‘Chinese Fountain’ with the slick backdrop contrasting nicely with the gravelly lead vocals from Brooks Nielsen.

Discussing his influences on the forthcoming album, Nielsen said: “I was really into Afrofunk when we made this record, and a lot of English 70s punk I listened to as a kid, particularly when Jamaica was mixing in with all the punk kids.”

The Growlers will be heading out on a North American and European tour to support the release of the third album ‘City Club’, including an appearance at London’s Electric Brixton.
