THE innovative Jack White has announced plans for his Third Man Records label to make history by playing a vinyl record in space for the very first time

With the company now renowned for their pioneering take on the age old format, the  former White Stripes frontman’s latest endeavour will see him celebrate the seventh anniversary of his label in extravagant fashion.

Teaming with Kevin Carrico and Students And Teachers In Near Space (commonly abbreviated to SATINS), they have created the Icarus craft; a ‘spaceproof’ turntable which will be suspended from a balloon at a very high altitude.

Fittingly, the record which shall ascend to where no record has gone before is their 2009 release ‘Glorious Dawn’, a speech from famed astronomer and cosmologist Carl Sagan.

Taking place on the 30th July, it is believed that this special event will be streamed live across the world.
