THE BAND: One of the biggest guitar based bands to surface from the UK in the past few years, Liverpool’s Circa Waves have gained notoriety for their consistently excellent output and forward thinking brand of indie rock. With another massive year ahead of them, the band have released the rollicking ‘101’, a new B-side which sees them on delightfully unhinged form.
THE SOUND: Recorded in frontman Keiran Shuddal’s flat, the track sees them swap their more harmonious material for a punk based ethos and relentless guitar. Venturing into territory occupied by The Strokes and The Libertines at their most hard edged, its frenzied riff, swagger laden vocals and breakneck speed could potentially point towards a more abrasive direction for future material.
THE LOWDOWN: Spontaneously releasing the track via their YouTube account and providing very little context, it is not known whether ‘101’ will appear on any future releases from the band.
