FALKIRK outfit Danko have followed up their recent popular single ‘Gecko’ with a new offering called ‘I Need’.

The band have taken massive strides forward since their early release, and ‘I Need’ reinforces this shift with its slow-building, increasingly bonkers arrangement. Led by a gritty and charismatic vocal, the track is driven by shuffling rhythms  and melodic guitar lines, before galloping off into space with a barrage of cosmic guitars and an increasingly frenetic instrumental.

Frontman Lewis White said he said: “I Need is one of my personal favourites. I remember writing it one day very rough, after we played a festival called Shuffle Down. I had a little chord shuffle and part of a riff. It’s one of those songs that really grew arms and legs as it came to life. Some songs end up where you expect them to end up but when we recorded I Need and heard it back we were all shook. It’s one of our more ambitious sounds and we like to describe I Need as “Intergalactic Cowboy Music”. Lyrically I Need is semi-serious with our satirical take on the last few years.”

“We wanted I Need to come next as it’s a bit of a different sound to Gecko. Something we feel strongly about is not being pigeonholed into a genre so to show off our full range of sound we wanted to display a bit of it all on this campaign. I feel these two tracks are a great representation of us as a band. We got plenty more to come.”

Of the EP, he said: “We are very, very excited to get all these songs out into the world finally. It’s our first real statement of what we are really all about as a band and we feel these songs are the best to show that. Farewell EP will consist of four songs in total, Gecko and I Need plus Weed Farmer and Farewell, dropping on Friday 16th September. The latter two I am extremely excited about personally. Both are big songs for us all so we hope everyone enjoys them as much as we do. We have a load of music already recorded and ready to go so it was quite difficult picking the songs to go on this EP. We’re hoping to be releasing an album at some point next year, all building towards that.”
