DECLAN WELSH AND THE DECADENT WEST announce their eagerly anticipated second album ‘2’, released through Frictionless Music on September 22nd with fresh lead track ‘King Of My Head’ providing an insight for what’s to come.

The Glasgow indie expert’s latest release differs from earlier work, with an obvious shift from the alternative rock style that acquired a loyal fanbase across the UK, Europe and America. Despite this change, Welsh maintains his acclaimed notion of poetic lyricism describing the inspiration for ‘King Of My Head’, “The lyrics are about kidding yourself that you’re in control. I’m the King of My Head, tell me who would rule instead? Cos see when your head’s working against you, you think to yourself sometimes – this is me. I’m doing this. I can think my way out of feeling this way. But the tool you have to fix the problem is the same one that causes it. Like fixing a hole in the wall with a hammer”.

Featuring recording sessions between Los Angeles and Glasgow, the upcoming releases from the four-piece can be described as harnessing a broad scope of influence from Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbow’ era, to the New Romantic electronic soaked music of the 1980s.

Following the success of 2022 ending in a sold-out Barrowland Ballroom headline show and seeing their ‘It’s Been A Year’ EP longlisted for 2022’s Scottish Album of the Year Awards, the quartet are primed to take 2023 by storm with a mini UK tour in April before hitting the main stage at TRNSMT Festival on Friday 7th July.
