FRESH from a winning performance at the BBC 6 Music Festival in Glasgow last weekend, indie-pop trio Girl Ray have unveiled a brand new video for latest single ‘Stupid Things’

Inspired by period dramas such as Atonement and The Other Boleyn Girl, charming clip is a dramatic tale of love and lust that feels remarkably akin to the popular films they’re paying homage to. Lead singer Poppy Hankin said: We’d always thought a period drama influenced music video would be really fun to film. So we decided to get our Keira Knightley on and do a WWII romance.” The video

Led by a simple piano melody, the track sees the three-piece embrace their vintage pop sensibilities once again over charming melodies and light percussive beats. With a twinkle of keys and jangle of guitars, their lilted harmonies exude a warmth and familiarity that is further emphasised by their heartfelt lyricism; Hankin has said the song is about “crushing really hard on someone, and finding myself doing fucking ridiculous things to feel like we’ve got some kind of connection.”

Freshly signed to Moshi Moshi, Girl Ray have already charmed listeners with tracks such as ‘Trouble’ and ‘Where Am I Know’,  displaying a knack for off-kilter but well-crafted pop. They will return to Glasgow to play Stag And Dagger in May.
