THE BAND: After recently incurring a family tragedy and cancelling the remainder of his tour, New York’s premier old school hip hop revivalist Joey Bada$$ has returned with another exert from his forthcoming debut LP.
THE SOUND: With a beat crafted by frequent collaborator and live DJ Statik Selektah, ‘Curry Chicken’ is an exquisite gem from his much anticipated record, exemplifying his deft wordplay and golden age aesthetic that has earned him a fervent underground following. Beginning with a spoken word monologue discussing the public’s perception of the Brooklyn native, it segues beautifully into a production reminiscent of DJ Premier’s legendary sound that propelled Gang Starr into the mainstream consciousness, laced with scratching and jazzy undercurrents.
THE LOWDOWN: The Pro Era leader’s debut B4DA$$ o is set for release on 20th January 2015, with no news as of yet on whether there are plans to reschedule his previously mentioned cancelled tour dates.
