WHILE
many are hasty to attribute the ‘psychedelic’ label to any band with a vaguely hazy aesthetic or the fainest hint of a left-of-center approach to songwriting, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are a band that genuinely revel in their own unabashed creativity.

Constantly re-imagining their sound despite putting out new music at a remarkable rate, the band have unveiled the video for ‘Trapdoor’, the lead single from their forthcoming record Paper Mache Dream Balloon.

Chaotic, exhilarating and wondrous, ‘Trapdoor’ sees the Australian band firing on all cylinders in spite of the fact that they’ve chosen to step away from electric guitars in favour of primarily acoustic instrumentation. With frolicsome flute that would leave Ian Anderson envious of and stirring piano that permeates throughout ‘Trapdoor’ once again sees King Gizzard & The Lizard sound like a breath of fresh air thanks to their refreshing and incredibly idiosyncratic approach.

Every bit as dizzying and avant garde as you’d expect, its accompanying visuals appear to be set at a warped, medieval banquet populated by ghosts and other ghastly creatures.

Paper Mache Dream Balloon is set for release on the 13th November 2015 via Heavenly.
