ManuelaIT’S been a matter of days since longstanding Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy announced his (possibly temporary) departure from the band but he’s wasted little time in divulging where he’s headed next.

Declaring that he’s unwilling to leave his young family for another lengthy touring schedule, his latest project is certainly closer to home given that it’s a collaboration with his wife Manuela Gardenel.

Released via Scottish label Lost Map, the duo have released the first track to be taken from their upcoming debut in the form of ‘Cracks In The Concrete.’

A mixture of slinking, angular post-punk rooted guitars, energetic percussion work and a pensive vocal performance from Gardenel which gives the impression that she’s  being rather coy about unleashing the full power of her voice, its art rock sensibility may be a departure from his famed band but it’s indicative that McCarthy remains as inspiringly creative as he ever was.

With no release date slated as of yet, Manuela’s debut album is expected to be released via Lost Map and will feature guest appearances from Django Django’s Jim Dixon, Franz Ferdinand’s Paul Thomson, Roxanne Clifford of Veronica Falls and more.
