IN the midst of what can only be referred to as a triumphant comeback following years of relative dormancy, Massive Attack and their outstanding Ritual Spirit EP has allowed them to remind everyone just how magnificent they can be at full pelt.
With their proposed new album allegedly in the works, the duo of 3D and Daddy G have unveiled a brand new video for the EP’s title track which features a surprise appearance from none other than British supermodel Kate Moss.
The music itself is atypical of the sinister yet spacious compositions which comprise the tracklisting of Ritual Spirit, bustling with glitchy textures, world music inspired rhythms and a hauntingly solemn vocal take from collaborator Azekel.
The new video is equally enthralling and features Moss gyrating in a barren room with little more than a sole bulb to make her visible.
Speaking of the video’s origin, 3D has stated that: “Me and Kate have been friends for years, but had never collaborated, so last year we booked a studio with Medium and set up a shoot. During the session Kate was dancing in the dark, lighting herself with a naked bulb. She perfectly captured the essence of this track… intimate and ritualistic. We edited it back in Bristol to keep it raw with no re-touching, I didn’t want to lose the spirit of that moment.”
