FOLLOWING their recent signing to Liverpool-based record label Modern Sky, Parliamo have shared a brand new single called ‘Paul & Barry’.

The Perth outfit have been on our radar for some time now, pricking our ears with rambunctious and infectious indie-rock tunes like ‘Youth’ and ‘All Dolled Up’, and even securing their place in TTV history with a couple of memorable performances at our very own Tenement Trail festival.

A lot has happened since then though and the band have undergone a noticeable transformation. Now a confirmed six-piece with the addition of Mairi Sutherland, they’ve not only returned with a revised line-up – but an entirely new sound.

Marking their first release of 2021, new single ‘Paul & Barry’ ushers in this exciting new chapter for the group in intoxicating fashion.

Channelling the baggy sounds of the Madchester movement in the late 80s and early 90s while dipping their toes into psychedelic Britpop, the track oozes cool from the very get-go. And while there’s echoes of The Stones Roses, The Charlatans et al, there’s something undeniably fresh about the track’s production – the sampled cowbells, the brilliantly fuzzed out basslines and hooky melodies are all topped off by Jack Dailly’s intoxicating falsetto.

Not only a significant departure from anything we’ve heard before from the group, ‘Paul & Barry’ indicates a massive step forward for Parliamo and showcases their growing maturity as songwriters. Full of ambition, it could be the start of something special.
