PARQUET COURTS have confirmed their return with the announcement of their sixth album Wide Awake! Slated for release on 18th May via Rough Trade, the New York outfit rather unexpectedly teamed up with Dangermouse for the upcoming record which saw the pop maestro take on production duties.

The first single to be revealed from the album is ‘Almost Had to Start a Fight/Out of Patience’; a track which lives up to its name in that its one of two entirely distinct halves. The first is built around Andrew Savage’s stuttering barks, thrashing guitars and claustrophobic, stop-start rhythms before the second half takes over and loosens things up with a propulsive urgency and boppy, danceable feel. Lyrically, Savage demands simplicity as he tries to grapple with the tumultuous atmosphere around him; expressing his anger while simultaneously making you want to dance.

Those afraid that a collaboration with Dangermouse would polish up Parquet Courts’ distinctively raw sound and DIY ethics should not be worried if this new track is anything to go by. It’s a bold and thrilling return for the outfit which is sure to go down a storm with their fervent fanbase.

The song has been accompanied by a cartoon video by Savage himself below.
