RECORD STORE DAY is renowned for its special releases, with the momentous occasion causing bands to make the decision to tackle something which their fans would’ve never have conceived of and releasing it on limited edition vinyl.
One such band that has chosen to commemorate the day with a brand new release is Bobby Gillespie’s Primal Scream, taking it upon themselves to tackle an acid house classic with assistance from Spiritualized’s frontman Jason Pierce.
While the band’s affinity for this genre is well known and is one of the cornerstones of the seminal Screamadelica LP, their new cover of S Express’s dancefloor filling classic ‘Mantra For A State Of Mind’ sees them twist and contort the track in a brazen direction.
Stripping away much of its electronic pomp in favour of a dense wall of impenetrable guitar and Bobby Gillespie’s instantly recognisable vocals. Transforming the track from the upbeat and lively dance number into a punk tinged slice of rock ‘n’ roll that has more in common with the sonic violence of XTRMNTR, it’s sure to sell out fast this Saturday.
