T Truman, the alter ego of The Vaccines’ keyboardist Timothy Lanham, is back with his first single of 2021 “Vanity Jones’. It’s his first piece of new material since last year’s ‘Born To Be Right’ EP.

According to the songwriter, it’s “about the inner cynic who comes out uninvited and spoils a good time.” Suitably camp and extravagant, Truman transports us back to the 70s with his irresistible piano melodies and theatrical vocal display. Beneath the retro buzz, he offers an examination on the less appealing aspects of the human condition – think insecurity, jealousy, selfishness, cynicism, and whatever that may ruin a good time.

The new single will appear on a new EP, due out in spring 2022. Lanham says of the new EP, “Retrospectively I think a lot of this new EP’s underlying lyrical meaning is about a search for creative purpose, and perhaps the fear of what it means if you can’t find it… also a lot about the constant obsession with keeping in vogue, though I couldn’t help but layer all this with silly made up characters who I’d probably never want to meet.
