THE Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) has launched two new research projects today with the aim of strengthening the country’s growing industry and those who work in it.

The first will focus on skills development and will be completed in partnership with the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities. The PhD student-driven research project will strive to identify the skills gaps, training needs and development priorities for the Scottish music industry through initial surveys and a series of in-depth case studies.

Secondly, the SMIA are looking to build a comprehensive directory of music industry businesses and practitioners throughout Scotland. Set to be a hugely valuable asset, the database will subsequently be available on the SMIA website. It will also provide the groundwork for the next phase of their research ambitions: calculating value and GDP.

Aimed at those currently working in the music industry, both surveys can be found below and will only take a few minutes of your time.  By completing them you are not only contributing to valuable research but also the development of Scotland’s music industry as a whole.  Furthermore, you are given the chance to enter a competition to win one year’s free Sole Trader membership of the SMIA. Details regarding the competitions can be found at the end of each form.

The Skills Survey can be found here  while you can contribute to the database research here.
