INDIE-FOLK duo Blue Violet have been quietly toiling away the past year so as to make 2021 their own, and after releasing a gorgeous reworking of the Everly Brothers’ “All I Have to Do is Dream”, they bring us their first original track; the outstanding “Undercover”.

The pair have teamed up with esteemed producer Rob Ellis (The Blinders, PJ Harvey, Placebo) to create a host of new material to be released throughout the coming year and have already grabbed the attention of the nation by bagging Radio Scotland’s Afternoon Show’s ‘Track of the Week’.

Immediately you can detect influence from the likes of Neil Young as a vintage sensibility marries nicely into bright, modern production throughout the track.

Sam Gotley touches on the band’s influences: “Our music taste generally falls into two categories. We grew up in the 90s with Brit pop bands, post grunge and indie, but we’re also influenced by 70s bands like Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones.”

“Keep me undercover when the walls fall down.Keep me undercover when the sky turns black.” The song’s lyrical refrain is an acknowledgement and homage to the people behind the scenes, be they a parent, sibling or colleague, who perform the thankless tasks of supporting and enabling one’s growth. It’s a poignant message in the wake of the pandemic with the backbone of the live industries continuously failed at government level.

In an increasingly superficial and individualist world, Blue Violet offer a repose; a chance to return to values of old where humility and gratitude take precedence.
