A Heart of Gold is the pseudonym of Glasgow-based producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew McDowell.
Ready to put his own unique stamp on the local music scene, McDowell has emerged from his home studio with a debut single called ‘Just, Everything’.
Describing his sound as ‘a blend of the anthemic and nostalgic’, ‘Just, Everything’ is an intriguing introduction that indicates heaps of potential. His deep, emotive vocals seize your attention almost immediately over a solemn guitar melody which gradually opens up with layers of piano and electronic beats. It makes for a deeply atmospheric listen that pairs an appreciation for pop melody with multi-layered arrangements. While each layer strengthens the next, it’s McDowell’s cathartic vocal performance that elevates the whole track.
Having turned his hand to a few covers over the last few months, ‘Just, Everything’ shows that the songwriter/producer can very much hold his own when it comes to original material.
