ON last year’s ‘Glow’, Katie Mackie treated us to a thoughtful yet uplifting meditation on loss. Offering a warm mix of folk and electronic elements, it marked a change in direction for the Aberdeen singer-songwriter towards a fuller, more organic sound

Her new single arrives today and it sees her continue down this rewarding route. ‘Terricot Town’ is a beautiful slice of blissed-out pop that shines a light on Katie Mackie’s thought-provoking lyrics and velvety vocal tone. Exploring the end of a relationship, the track opens with a pared-back piano melody before gradually building into something more with big chorus beats and wonderfully layered vocals. It’s rich, warm and beautifully executed.

She says “I’ve recently found most of my writing mixes uplifting melodies with quite emotional and thought-provoking lyricism,” notes Katie. “This style of writing really fascinates me as I think the meaning of the track could be perceived differently by each listener in a way that’s personal to them”

Emotional yet uplifting at the same time, Katie Mackie continues to refine her songwriting with grace and precision.
