lauramarling-falsehopeTHE BAND:  After transcending her initial role as a hot prospect and eschewing in a folk revival following her second album I Speak Because I Can, Laura Marling was earmarked to become one of the biggest stars in the UK; earning herself a number of Baftas and other accolades upon its release. However, as opposed to releasing carbon copies of the album that amassed such acclaim, she has frequently subverted from what is expected of her into new and intriguing territory. Returning with the second excerpt from her forthcoming album, the English songstress has released the rousing ‘False Hope.’

THE SOUND: Utilising electric guitar as opposed to her trademark acoustic instrumentation, it is possible that this track signifies a development in her sound that will eschew in a new era within Marling’s career. Whilst the concept of the Hampshire born songwriter isn’t as far-fetched as when folk icons of the 60’s began to experiment with electric guitars, it’s most certainly an interesting proposition. shifting the momentum towards a frenetic pace following its tender intro; ‘False Hope is as close to a rock and roll track as Marling has produced to date.

THE LOWDOWN: Taken from her forthcoming LP Short Movie, the album and aforementioned track will be available from the 26th March via Ribbon Music.
