ONE
of Scotland’s finest exports bar none, post rock pioneers Mogwai are continuing to tease their loyal fanbase with the enthralling new video for ‘Ether’, the second track to be taken from their forthcoming new LP.

Originally composed as part of the band’s latest stride into scoring films, this and all other tracks from Mark Cousins’ BBC documentary Atomic: Living In Dread And Promise have been re-imagined to a degree and are set to be released on the 1st April.

An atmospheric and deeply stirring number which possesses that unmistakable feeling of enchantment which only Mogwai can muster, ‘Ether’ sees the band conveying a sense of hope amid the carnage with poignant piano, wonderful strings. gorgeous horns and majestic guitar work.

Speaking in reference to the project, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite has stated that “the Atomic soundtrack is one of the most intense and fulfilling projects we’ve taken on as a band. Ever since we went to Hiroshima to play and visited the peace park this has been a subject very close to us. The end results, both the film score and the record are pieces I’m extremely proud of.”

Its accompanying video is an awe-inspiring affair and helps the listener to recognise the real magnitude of their new body of work’s subject matter. Utilising footage from Cousins’ documentary, the footage documents the formation of life from the molecular level and all the way through to the diversified splendour which we see around us today. Simultaneously celebrating the wondrous planet which we all inhabit whilst serving as a stark reminder of nuclear power’s destructive capabilities, it’s as important a statement as we’ve came to expect from the seminal band.

Atomic will be released on the 1st April via Rock Action Records.
