The band: United Fruit are a four-piece from Glasgow who formed back in 2008. Playing a blend of simplified, aggressive and extremely in your face rock mixed with some more tangible hooks and chorus’, the group have been gradually building a very solid fan base all over Europe. They have so far released a 5-track EP Mistress, Reptile Mistress! And a full length album Fault Lines, and are set to release another album this year.
The sound: ‘How Long (Change You Into Something Better)’ (listen below) is the first single to be released from that up-coming new album. It is still fueled by aggression and energy, but leans closer to the pop side than their previous releases. Think of bands like Shellac from the early 90’s, but turn that into something more coherent and listenable and you will get to United Fruit’s sound.
The lowdown: The new album doesn’t currently have a release date but is due out later this year. In the meantime they have a few live shows to keep them busy, including playing alongside Flood of Red on the 28th May at Stereo, Glasgow, and a slot at this year’s GoNorth festival on the 4th June.
