TOPPING charts and conquering hearts with his debut single ‘Human’, Rag’n’Bone Man has followed up with a belter of a debut album. Having started rapping at the tender age of fifteen and singing blues at nineteen, his passions and talent are expertly showcased on this major-label release.

Tender, heartfelt, passionate and intricate is Rag’n’Bone Man first full-length, with his simultaneously emotional and gentle, yet wide-ranged and gruff singing being the hook and the thread that carries the listener from song to song. There’s something for almost any old-school RnB fan on the debut, from slower, heartfelt piano-led ballads on ‘Skin’ or ‘Love You Any Less’, to energetic drum’n’bass backed tracks, like ‘Innocent Man’ or ‘Be the Man’, where the singer channels the great James Brown.

The most impressive of the bunch, however, is the closer – ‘Die Easy’ – where it’s just us, the listener, and Rag’n’Bone Man’s voice, exposed, and all the more powerful. It’s the perfect showcase to all the nuance and raw feeling he’s able to imbued every single note with.

Those looking for an album packed full of singles ‘Human’ will be disappointed. Not to say the album fails because of this, but no other tracks really match the catchiness of the eponymous single. Nonetheless, fans of old-school RnB or the single should be more than satisfied with this debut, as it is an excellent showcase of the musical and emotive powerhouse that the human voice can be. Plus an exciting overview of the intricate understanding and love for old-school hip-hop and RnB Rag’n’Bone Man has.
